August Blog Roundup

August Blog Roundup

Hi, friends! It's the end of the month so I thought I'd do something different for our Wednesday Roundup. Looking at my stats I noticed that the most popular post of August was "12 Easy No Bake Desserts", so I decided to do a recap of all the posts we had in August.

Checking my stats I also noticed that August was not as good as July when it comes to page views. I worked very hard during July to get my blog to a point where it got almost 2,500 page views. I am still learning about the meaning of these stats, but I know that my blog is healthy because of the number of page views. I also felt very accomplished since it's only roughly 3 months since I've been doing this, and my wish is to have more time to promote and write more often.

But, in August things changed a little bit. First, I started using Disqus with horrible results: the comments were only showing in the moderation panel, but not on the blog. I tried all the solutions they have on their website, like URL mappings and such, and nothing worked. It looked very arbitrary the way comments were showing. Some of them appeared, some won't. After a month of trying to fix the problem, I decided that I didn't want to use Disqus anymore, and rather stayed with Squarespace's native comment system. What gives.

The other reason I've been neglecting my blog is that as of today I am 9 weeks pregnant, so I've been feeling very tired and all I can think about is sleep :D Hopefully after I finish the 1st trimester I'll get a little more energy.

I feel a little sad about the situation with Disqus because now I have to start from scratch to populate the comment section. It was hard work and I was taking the time to answer every comment. I guess that happens in the blogging world! Do please leave me a comment, as reading your comments is one of my favourite parts of blogging,  you can comment as a guest.

Easy Sauces and Recipes - Part 2

I made two posts about sauces and dips because I got a lot, and I mean a lot of recipes! They all are so easy and delicious that I didn't want to leave anything out. You can check part 1 here.

Two Months of Food Blogging

I'm still learning how to be a functional blogger, but I felt that the little I've learnt was worth sharing, that is why I wrote about my experience after 2 months of blogging.

How to Make Slow Cooker Butternut Soup

During August we were in the last track of winter in South Africa and I was in the mood for soup all the time, and butternut soup happens to be one of my favourites.

12 Easy No Bake Desserts

This was the star of August, the most popular post during this month! I have become a fan of no bake desserts due to how easy they are!

Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast

I had a lot of fun doing this. I enjoy recreating foods from movies or TV shows, and as it happens, music can also be a source of food inspiration.

15 Recipes Using Coffee and Tea as Ingredients

What I learnt while doing this post is that coffee and tea are more than just drinks, and can be used to prepare savory dishes as well!

Overnight Oats with Chia Pudding

This is the second part of my post, Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. The song breaks into 3 parts so there was a lot of food inspiration opportunities.

Drink me Potion from Alice in Wonderland

This recipe got me thinking for a while until I finally decided to make it. What I like the most about recreating fiction food is that most of the time it is open to interpretation. I had to test my photography skills with this one as well, as it has ice-cream and it was melting rapidly!

Celebrating Costa Rica's Folklore

This was a post full of nostalgia for me as I've been away from home for a while now. My sister helps me with travel post now and then, check out her other posts here, here and here.

How to Make Remy's Tomato Soup in the Slow Cooker

The slow cooker is probably my favourite kitchen appliance and I take every opportunity to use it. As I mentioned before, soup was the flavour of the month for August as it was cold and dingy most of the time. We got inspiration from Ratatouille to make this creamy soup.

Thanks for reading! Next week we will continue with the regular roundups. Remember you can follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, and if you like it, let's stay in touch with my weekly  newsletter!
