Breakfast Sweet Burritos with Strawberries and Cheese
As you know, burritos are a traditional Mexican food, and Mexican food is a Cultural Treasure. Of course, in this globalised world almost anything that comes in a tortilla is a burrito. Also, I have noticed recently this new thing called "burrito bowl", that looks more like a "casado" from my home country (a casado is a typical Costa Rican dish served mainly for lunch, it usually has rice, beans, some kind of meat, and anything else the cook was feeling like). Authentic Mexican burritos have only two ingredients: meat and beans, but it has evolved since its pre-Columbian origins to become what we know today.
Wandering through the rabbit hole that is Wikipedia, I've found that wraps are eaten all over the world, with different names depending on the country, for instance, Dürüm, a Turkish wrap that's very similar to a burrito.
So here we have this new sweet addition to our breakfast collection, which is growing! Currently, we have 6 recipes in there, and we have plenty of ideas to come. This one is very easy and needs only 4 ingredients. I had to wait a little bit to make it as strawberries became hard to find for a while. The only things you will need to make sweet burritos are strawberries, tortillas, strawberry jam and icing sugar.
Feel free to experiment with flavours and fruits; make your own variations: use Nutella or peanut butter with bananas, or replace icing sugar with chocolate syrup. That's the beauty of cooking: you are completely free to experiment and be creative.
To start, heat a pan over medium heat with a little bit of butter. Then, start with the burrito preparation:
Spread the strawberry jam on the tortilla; next, cut the strawberries into thin slices and put them on the tortilla along with the sliced cheese. Roll the tortillas like a burrito.
Let the burritos toast until they are golden. Then, you can use ground sugar or chocolate syrup to decorate them.
